Day 1, Athens

I'm finally here, after delays with the flight due to mechanical issues (luckily they were able to move us to the plane right next door so it was only a 1 1/2 hour delay) and getting lost for two hours trying to find my hostel (come to find out it was less than a block from the metro stop, I just walked in the exact opposite direction and then just went in circles for a while). The first order of business was to change out of my sweaty clothes because let me tell you, it is HOT! Second, I hit up the Acropolis. The hostel I'm staying at is right under it, and it is pretty cool to be able to have coffee and gaze up at a bunch of structures that are thousands of years old. Then I wandered through the Ancient Agora and it really was wandering since I was probably suffering from a bit of dehydration after sweating all day. I like the statue that's in this picture because it looks like it will be fun to photo shop my head on top of it.....When it came time for dinner I took a recommendation from my guide book and got some souvlaki at one of the most popular souvlaki joints in Athens. I had to grab a picture of the food they brought out. That plate on the left with the brick of feta cheese, yeah, that's what they call a greek salad around here. Where's the lettuce? I don't know, but they more than made up for it with the cheese....to be perfectly honest, I prefer Daphne's salad and their gyros so the next time you go there for lunch you can enjoy it knowing that it's actually better than the real thing according to me. I would be discouraged, but next stop is Italy and I'm sure that the food there will not disappoint. Happy Friday, talk to you all next week!
